Ubuntu 9.10 upgrade breaks sweet home 3d on intel

I have a machine with a
Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device
graphics card

Sweet Home 3d worked fine under ubuntu 9.04

Upgrading to ubuntu 9.10 has broken it.

First thing I tried was xvinfo which reported no adapter so I googled and found out that adding "i915.modeset=0 nomodeset" to my kernel lines
fixes that and xvinfo now returns a load of lines.

However sweet home 3d still gives
"Sweet Home 3D will exit now because of a fatal error in 3D rendering system. Please update the DirectX/OpenGL drivers of your computer graphics card."

Too bad, since Hans reported that Intel drivers updated in Ubuntu 9.10 seem to have been fixed for his Intel 945 graphic card. sad
